Does the escalation of armed struggles and deadly force (rather than just rioting) hinder anarchist goals?

Does the spectacle and glamour of escalation portray a misleading mystique within the milieu? Are riots and other civil disturbances preferable to the use of deadly force to anarchists?

what escalation? what deadly force?
regardless, the premise of this question is that anarchist goals require non-anarchists to buy in to succeed, and whether or not that's true, thinking that way doesn't work well for us, in my experience.
